About the event
Lettice and Lovage is a hilarious, thoughtful comedy from the award-winning British playwright Sir Peter Shaffer. Shaffer wrote the award-winning dramas Equusand Amadeus. Lettice and Lovage was written for Dame Maggie Smith, for which performance she won a Tony award for best actress in 1990. The play is centered around a theatrical tour guide who “tweaks” the history around an English country home. Lettice’s watchwords are “Enlarge, Enliven, Enlighten!” Her efforts to embellish what she calls “ mere” facts inevitably conflict with Lotte Schoen, her gate-keeper boss at the Preservation Trust.
